Sunday, March 15th – A day of total rest, well, not really. Since waking up to a phone call at 8 Am this morning, I’ve gone downstairs for a HUGE buffet breakfast which was included in our stay and then pretty much played on the computer for the rest of the afternoon – cleaning up pictures, preparing this blog, answering emails and checking up on bills that need to be paid at home – plus “calling” Tyler and Kevin at about 9:30 AM Red Wing time to chat on Skype. I usually think I’m doing pretty good when it comes to not being homesick and the conversation with them is fun but saying goodbye at the very end is REALLY difficult. I am truly enjoying this once in a lifetime experience but there are moments when I want to be back home with everyone…
This evening, Kara went to a health club to work out with Anna. Jennifer, Alison and I wandered around town for a few minutes looking for a place to eat. We decided to try out the Shangri La – nothing like a little Asian food in Sweden. It was REALLY good – I had a chicken dish with a citron, rum & coke while Jennifer tried the duck& some sake and Alison had prawns with some locally brewed beer. Afterwards, it was back to our little rooms to blog and re-pack our gear. This picture was taken during my walk along the waterway in Trollhattan - - it continues to amaze me how many people of all ages are constantly out for walks at all times of the day.
With this weekend of rest, we've had a chance to reflect back on our experiences so far and they have been AMAZING - the people of Sweden that we have met have been delightful and we have seen more of their communities than we would have as a "normal tourist." I love the country-side and the way the towns are woven into nature. I have enjoyed all of my host families - - each one being a unique experience with many fond memories. I think our enthusiasm and interest in everything Sweden has left a mark on them as well...

These pictures show Alison and I with our
host families in Uddevalla (Jens & Jessica with their daughters and Christian & Maja) when they joined us for dinner one evening. The second picture shows me with my host family in Vanersborg - Lennart and Lena.
Take Care - Steph
